Listen Zoë’s letter
Dear Beloved Community,
I wanted to take a moment to share something deeply personal and sacred with you. In July 2024, my mother transitioned after a sudden and rapid battle with cancer.
Before that, in 2023, she was diagnosed with dementia. The journey of caregiving during that time was one of the most profound initiations of my life—one that cracked me open in places I didn’t know existed. It brought up every kind of grief: anticipatory, spiritual, ancestral, and the kind that doesn’t have a name yet.
And still, in the midst of that unraveling, I was tasked with continuing to show up—for my work, for my community, for Spirit.
It is in these times that my spiritual practices became more than just rituals—they became my anchor. My path toward healing hasn’t been linear or neat, but it has been held by a foundation of consistency, spiritual hygiene, and fierce energetic protection. These practices didn’t just help me survive—they gave me language, gave me direction, and reminded me of who I am even when the world around me was full of chaos and grief.
We are in turbulent times. The collective grief is heavy. And for those of us doing spiritual, healing, or justice-centered work—protection and spiritual hygiene are not optional. They’re critical. They are not about fear, but about discernment, clarity, and sovereignty.
So I want to share a few of the daily and monthly things I do to stay grounded and clear—things that continue to help me find moments of peace, beauty, and balance amidst the storm. These rituals are not rigid—they’re living, breathing acts of devotion. Let them be a guide, an offering, or a gentle reminder.
Spiritual Baths:
I take them a few times a month—on the full moon, new moon, or whenever I feel I’ve picked up heavy energy. Sometimes I use sea salt and other times I’ll create a blend of fruits like oranges, limes, and apples with herbs and oils. When I don’t have time, I’ll use a bath like Gran Poder from the botanica (spiritual store) Red roses are my favorite—they raise the vibration instantly. If you don’t do baths, pour the mixture over your body in the shower and let yourself air dry. Let it soak in.
Salt & Threshold Protection:
Since 2017, I’ve placed salt across the front and back doors of my home. Sometimes, when my mom was still here and I could feel extra “activity” in the neighborhood, I’d lay salt around the whole perimeter of the house and say:
“No one who means me harm can cross this threshold. Only love may enter here.”
Simple. Powerful. Non-negotiable.
Herb + Powder Bowls (Monthly):
On the first of the month, I mix protective herbs like ruda, agrimony, rosemary, camphor, and Fiery Wall of Protection powder in a small bowl and place it near my doors. I also clean all the mirrors in my home, as they hold energy. Mirrors are portals—keep them clear.
Crystals:
Black Tourmaline above every door. Celestite and Quartz throughout the house and in my car. I keep crystals in my windows and everywhere I want elevated energy and spiritual communication. They’re my companions.
Spiritual Oils (From Moonlight and Sage):
During the day, I wear Anastasia’s oils to amplify joy, magnetism, and confidence—like “Lucky Girl,” “Queen Bee,” “Praise Me.”
At night, I switch to protection oils—“Privacy Please,” “Banish,” “Clove Domination,” “Black Cat,” and “Evil Eye.”
I add them to my shower gel, lotion, and sometimes even my shampoo. It’s layered magic.
Railroad Spikes:
After my mom passed, I buried railroad spikes in the four corners of the property. It was symbolic for me—a way to claim the space, protect the land, and honor the next chapter. You can also place them in windows if you prefer not to drive them into the ground.
Mantras & Words as Shields:
I say these often—sometimes out loud, sometimes silently:
“I am invisible to the police.”
“No weapon formed against me shall prosper.”
“Everything I desire falls into place as if by magic.”
Ancestor Work:
My altar stays active—filled with candles, water, offerings, and prayer. I work with my ancestors regularly around protection, guidance, and clarity of purpose. They have helped me carry the unbearable.
Candles:
I light candles for protection, prosperity, and communication with my guides.
These practices are my medicine. They remind me of my worth, my lineage, my right to joy, and my role in this sacred unfolding. Please remember, mindset is everything. Cleanse all your tools—your herbs, your crystals, your mirrors—before using them. Introduce yourself to everything you work with. Build a relationship. Trust your intuition.
If you have questions or want to share what’s been working for you, I’m always open to hearing from you. We’re all finding our way, but none of us should be on the brink alone.
With protection and deep love,
